Scorton, Dolphinhome and the River Wyre Walk

WalkExplorer

This largely flat walk is characterised largely by water - streams, the River Wyre and lakes formed after gravel and sand extraction. Consequently it may be muddy, but as I have walked it only in winter, on one occasion when the ground was frozen, I am unable to give an assessment of the terrain in summer. There are some short stretches on lanes and on farm tracks, also now surfaced, so that there is some compensation. There are good views of the fringes of Bowland and the potential of birdlife; there are buzzards around and other birds on the lakes and streams. It is also fairly quiet as most other walkers, naturally, choose to climb Nicky Nook and all in all, it makes a very satisfying day out.
