Sandford via Upton Hellions Walk Walk

The walk starts in the centre of Sandford, a quaint little village first documented more than a thousand years ago by the Saxons in 930AD. The centre of the village is dated to the Middle Ages and not changed much from the 19th Century.

One of the most striking features of the village of Sandford is the little school; its origins can be traced back to 1677. The present school was built for the village by the 9th Baronet, Sir John Davie, who was born at Creedy House in 1798. The architecture design is of classical Greek style, which is unique for a school in Britain. The cob walls are thought to be the highest of their type in the country, so the school is a Grade ll listed building.

The walk carries on through the valley and hills towards the village of Upton Hellions, with its pretty little Church of St Mary the Virgin, which dates back to about 1170.
