From Collennan to Troon Walk

This walk continues an historic route which has been in regular use by smugglers. William Stuart lived at Collennan and visited the Isle of Man to arrange the shipment of good-quality brandy and rum. When a boat was due, local men with up to 500 horses left their homes and descended to the beach to carry the contraband inland as speedily as possible.

From Loans the route crosses fields before entering Fullerton Woods, passing Crosbie Kirk and eventually crossing Royal Troon Golf Course, with wonderful views over the Firth of Clyde to Arran. Eventually it follows a wrack road through the dunes of Troon South Beach.

This may link with Walk 4271 to continue the Smugglers Trail to the shore from Waymark 7, making a one-way walk from Dundonald to Troon.
