Kelsall - Delamere Forest Park - Manley Common - Kelsall Walk

WalkExplorer

The village of Kelsall grew up where a gap in the Mid-Cheshire Ridge encouraged an early trading route to develop, carrying salt from the Cheshire salt field to Chester (Deva) in Roman times, for example. During the medieval period, development of the village was constrained by the surrounding Royal Forest of 'Mara et Mondrum', parts of which survive today as Delamere Forest. Today, the village lies in the commuter belt of Chester and Merseyside and has been bypassed by the busy A54(T). Unusually for this part of England, there are several fruit farms around the village.
