Brandsby - Marton Park - Crayke - Brandsby Walk

The Howardian Hills AONB has numerous footpaths, some of which are rarely walked. This route uses a section of the low-lying 28-mile Foss Walk, which follows the river from York to Easingwold.

The walk starts from Dutch house, an ecological sculpture garden, with café, art shop and art studio at Mill Green near Crayke. The owners are happy to allow walkers to park at the tea room and hope they will support their enterprise by taking refreshments there at the start or end of the walk. We walk north through the village of Brandsby and later pass the site of the former Marton Abbey near Stillington, no longer standing, before visiting the hilltop village of Crayke, high above the Vale of York, where we have views on a clear day down to South Yorkshire.
