Tillington - Lodsworth - Upperton Walk

This walk starts in the pretty West Sussex village of Tillington, with its unusual church spire and excellent pub. The terrain round here is typical of the rolling Sussex Hills, with a good length of the walk being in traditional, broad-leaved woodland. We walk firstly along one side of the Rother Valley, with excellent views over to the South Downs. After reaching the Georgian Pitshill House Estate, we cross to the woodland overlooking the valley on the opposite side of the hill and soon reach the old village of Lodsworth.

Here, you can picnic on the green, or refresh yourself at the Hollist Arms, before heading back over the valley in more woodland, to the boundary of the Petworth Estate. Dropping back through the little village of Upperton, we return to Tillington and maybe a post-walk drink at the Horseguards Inn.

There are plenty of dog-unfriendly stiles on the route and the possibility of sheep and cows.
