Merstham - Chipstead - Mugswell - Gatton Park - Merstham Walk

WalkExplorer

The Surrey Hills are one of the most wooded areas in the country, covering approximately one quarter of Surrey. They include the chalky North Downs, which run from Farnham in the west to Oxted in the east. To the south are the Greensand Hills, which include the Devil's Punchbowl at Hindhead and Leith Hill (the highest point in southern England).

This walk initially takes you over the M25 to explore a series of hills offering views which include the North Downs and to the north, London. There are plenty of friendly animals to meet along the way, as much of the area is home to horses. In the winter, most of the fields are left with stubble to provide food for birds. This makes it fairly easy going underfoot, as there are no ploughed grooves to negotiate!
