The Old Bar (Nairn) Walk

WalkExplorer

The Old Bar, a sand and shingle spit to the east of Nairn, curves south-west for 4km and is less than 5m in height (See Additional Information). To explore it all is a day's expedition; this walk is to the eastern half. The sand and mud between the shore and the Bar is quite firm, as is the beach on the far side of it. There are many shallow streams and puddles between Waymarks 4 and 5, so if you can walk six miles in them, wellies will keep your feet dry. Paddle in summer? There is lots of birdlife and you might see the Moray Firth dolphins. Sadly the salmon bothy is no more, being unable to withstand the ravages of wind and sea.
