Winteringham - Whitton - Alkborough Walk

A number of people walked Walk 1150 and told me that they really enjoyed it, but it was too long. In response I've created two new walks. This walk covers the villages of the northern half: Winteringham, Whitton and Alkborough. But if you've already walked 1150, I can still recommend this. It shares only about a mile of path and that in the other direction.
The walk itself sets off from Winteringham West End (near the church). Winteringham is located at the very northern end of the Roman road Ermine Street and was where York-bound Romans would cross the River Humber, often by wading at low tide! We don't attempt such a dangerous feat, but cross the flatlands to Whitton. We then walk along the hilltop to Alkborough and an optional visit to the viewpoint and maze at Julian's Bower. From Alkborough, we cross back to Whitton via a footpath known locally as Huteson Lane.
