Oxford, Godstow and Port Meadow Walk

WalkExplorer

This tour of Port Meadow makes use of some of the many waterways close to Oxford. Starting with a walk just to the south of Oxford, it picks up the Thames Path at Folly Bridge, following it through Osney Lock. It continues on the other bank of the Thames, on a very pleasant stretch through shrubs and woodland, with views across the impressively-large Port Meadow opening up. The path passes through pasture and through Godstow Lock, passing by Godstow Abbey, of which sadly very little remains. A road section through Wolvercote follows, passing by the Trout Inn, made famous by Inspector Morse on TV and which serves excellent food in an idyllic situation. The walk continues to a bridge over the Oxford Canal, where it drops down and follows the canal right back to the centre of Oxford and the canal's terminus, passing a great many longboats and bridges. The walk finishes by passing by Mill Stream, to Carfax and the city centre.
