Galmpton - Greenway Walk

Starting from the old village of Galmpton (mentioned in the Doomsday Book), we walk along quiet country roads to a green lane that takes us down a wooded track and across farmland (new permissive path) and up through woodland to a high viewpoint. Here we have a flat walk for a while with views over the River Dart, before dropping down to the gardens of Greenway Manor, once the home of famous crime writer Agatha Christie and recently taken over by the National Trust (admittance £2.90).

Taking to a quiet country road again, we drop further down to Greenway Quay with views over the river to Dittisham. There is a ferry across the river if required and a recommended pub on the other side, as well as a famous Devon vineyard. There is also an hourly ferry service downriver to Dartmouth, which is also worth a visit with its world-renowned naval college.

Walking back up the road to Greenway Farm, we take to the fields again and descend to the foreshore of Galmpton Creek and a limekiln from days long past. A short walk along the shore brings us to another quiet lane and a footpath back to the village and the Manor Inn.
