Glen Trool: Caldons - Lamachan Hill - Curleywee Circular Walk

Glen Trool: Caldons - Lamachan Hill - Curleywee - White Laggan Bothy - Loch Trool - Caldons

A challenging trek through the spectacular wilderness of the Galloway Hills, scaling two contrasting mountains in the Minnigaff Group, with immense and unparallelled views of the rugged grandeur of the region. From the former campsite at Caldons, your route follows the Caldons Burn up onto the shoulder of Cambrick Hill and on up to the broad-backed summit of Lamachan Hill at 2,350ft. From here you cross onto Bennanbreck, thence down and across the Nick of Curleywee and steeply up again onto Curleywee itself. The views from here are superb!

A careful descent is now needed down Curleywee's northerly slopes and on to the White Laggan Bothy. The walk continues along the Southern Upland Way and ultimately reaches Loch Trool, following its left-hand (eastern) shore along an undulating path leading back to Caldons.

Please note that there are no refreshments available on this walk, though they may be had at the Glentrool Visitor Centre at Stroan Bridge.
