Mungrisdale - Bannerdale Crags Walk

WalkExplorer

This is great excursion onto the Lakeland fells when you don't have time to bag a real peak or the weather's not quite right. It is the route featured in the making of our Navigation Workshop DVD, although that time we did it in reverse.

The upward route is a long, diagonal incline with superb views of the Bannerdale Crags. Then there is a short section along the rim of the crags before dropping down to Mungrisdale Common, with a superb view of Blencathra and Sharp Edge in front of you.

The return is down a surprisingly remote, winding valley, alongside the wonderfully named Glenderamackin River.

The Mill Inn in Mungrisdale is a friendly village pub. The meat pies made there are renowned and are distributed widely throughout the Lake District.
